THESE 2 CD's SHOULD BE MANDATORY LISTENING FOR ANY FAN
OF HEAVY METAL THAT HAS NEVER HEARD THESE ALBUMS!!!!!!!!!

Now that I have made my rant, let it be known that these 2 CD's along with Riot's "Fire Down Under" are the most long overdue CD reissues in heavy metal history.  Regardless of the member vs ex-member politics involved, the first two full-length Virgin Steele CD's are just as important as Manowar's "Hail To England" and the aforementioned Riot's "Fire Down Under" to the history of American heavy metal.  The Dave DeFeis / Jack Starr duo created two masterful discs that helped define the American metal sound in the early 1980's.

"Burn The Sun" may be one the greatest heavy metal tracks ever recorded.  The duel between Starr's screaming guitar and Defeis' scream vocals is pure magic.  The epic quality of songs such as "Children Of The Storm" are rarely matched today even by pure underground bands.  Even though the majority of the songs on both discs have been remastered, the raw, honest feel of these albums still stays intact.  Perhaps modern technology has robbed many a band from being able to record such unpolished gems.

Hearing the original demo version and album version of "Life Of Crime" gives you a true appreciation for the quality of this track.  Even on the bare bones demo, the song gives off an essential feeling that is finalized by the album version.

"Virgin Steele" and "Guardians Of The Flame" both p!ss on every American CD release on a major label that claims to be "metal" in the "nu-millennium".
