Elegy is a 6 track release that came out ahead of the Vinland
Saga by Leaves' Eyes. There are two versions of the title
cut (a single version and album version) which is an excellent
showcase for the vocal prowess of former Theatre Of Tragedy
singer Liv Kristine. Senses Capture and A Winter's Poem
are hauntingly lush tracks with there soft verses and
contrasting thick choruses. This is a definite strength of
the band as they tend to fall along the lines of atmospheric
metal similar to mid 90's Gathering and not as over the top on
the vocals as say Nightwish. Solemn Sea is a demo version
of the track that appears on Vinland Saga and includes a rough
male vocal to contrast Kristine's angelic vocals. Mot
Fjerne Land is ambient instrumental. Elegy works well as
an introduction to Leaves' Eyes for those who are curious as to
their sound.
