While most are staying indoors this week due to the poor air quality from the Canadian wildfires, we ventured out to see one of three scheduled performances by the KISS tribute band Kuarantine featuring wrestler and Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho at Jergel’s in Warrendale, PA.
Making their debut in May, 2020, Kuarantine began as a fun project that spawned out of boredom during Covid-19 quarantine that focuses on the songs released by KISS when they were “un-masked” in the 1980’s. The band released a couple singles that shot to the top of the charts having little competition at the time, like “No, No, No,” which reached #25 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts and a version of “Heart of Chrome,” which features Bruce Kulick on guitar.
Fans may recognize bassist P.J. Farley (Trixter, Eric Martin Band) as well given that the two were returning to Jergel’s not long after their March performance with Fozzy. They are joined by guitarists Joe McGinness, a rising country vocalist/guitarist, and YouTube star Charlie Parra from Lima, Peru, as well as drummer Kent Slucher who is best known for his work with Luke Bryan.
Having just a few live performances (which have included Creatures Fest in Nashville, TN) under his sparkly belt fronting Kuarantine, Jericho seemed more than pleased with the fan response last night. In fact, he chuckled when they announced that the crowd had bought all the merchandise they brought on the road with them for the entire tour, and later sat on the drum riser taking in the chants for Kuarantine (pronounced Quarantine) before closing out the evening with an encore of “Lick it Up.”
The audience was very pleased with the diverse set-list which covered KISS tunes that you rarely get to hear live like “I Just Wanna” and “Uh All Night” singing and dancing their way through the set. While one would like to think that it was a wild and crazy night with bras and thongs hitting the stage, it was hilarious to watch the band plant them on the microphone stands in honor of KISS.
Currently, the band has shows scheduled tonight, June 30th at King of Clubs in Columbus, Ohio and tomorrow July 1st at JD Legends in Franklin, Ohio. Let’s hope there are more to come!
