When The Pure Rock Shop caught up with vocalist Philip Lewis in advance of the show we knew we were in for some changes. After all a lot can happen in a year, or even a few weeks!
With Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis performing together again and the addition of Adam Hamilton to the mix (on guitar this time around) along with Johnny Martin on bass and Shane Fitzgibbon on drums, there’s a new dynamic in the band and some excellent new song selections in store for anyone catching these guys on the road.
Fans were out in full force at Jergels in Warrendale, PA for a Friday night club show in follow-up to a festival performance in Erie, PA for the annual “Roar on the Shore” bike rally the evening before. At the forefront of the set were “The Devil Made Me Do It” from the band’s latest studio album The Missing Peace, along with the high-energy “Electric Gypsy” and “No Mercy.”
Mixing things up quite a bit with classics catching our ear this time around were “I Wanna Be Your Man” and “Kiss My Love Goodbye,” as well as “Hellraisers Ball” from the Waking the Dead album resurrected with Hamilton back in the line-up. Not to worry, they still made time for a little “Sex Action” and the powerful “Speed.”
We’d like to think we planted the seed about adding a few ballads into the set during our discussion with Phil about the origins of the song “Christine” from the latest album… Regardless the reason, it was moving as always to find a little bit of “Crystal Eyes” from the Hollywood Vampires album mixed in to introduce the always anticipated “Ballad of Jayne” and ripped it up, closing out the night with the high-energy “Rip and Tear.”
