Friday night’s concert at the MGM Grand Arena in Last Vegas was part of Sammy Hagar’s “Best of All Worlds” tour, which celebrates his extensive career, particularly his time with Van Halen. The tour has been a hit with fans, especially those nostalgic for the Van Halen era.
Sammy Hagar took the stage shortly after 8:15 pm, backed by an all-star band including Joe Satriani on guitar, Michael Anthony on bass, Jason Bonham on drums, and Rai Thistlethwayte on keyboards. The setlist was a mix of Hagar’s solo hits and Van Halen classics, including “There’s Only One Way to Rock,” and “I Can’t Drive 55,” as well as Van Halen classics such as “Poundcake,” “Right Now,” and “Why Can’t This Be Love.” The crowd was on its feet from start to finish, rocking out to the powerful performances. Highlight of the night was Michael Anthony taking the lead vocal on“Ain’t Talking About Love.” He exclaimed “Let’s do this for Eddie,” as he led the crowd in chants of “Hey, Hey, Hey” as the song came to a close.
After the final song, “When It’s Love,” Hagar thanked the sell out crowd and said, “We are keeping it live, and alive with these boys right here. Thank you for loving this show.” Throughout the 21-track, nearly two-hour performance the love, camaraderie, and joy between Hagar and Co. and the audience were profound. Sammy Hagar proved to be an unpretentious and powerful frontman, keeping the focus and engaging the crowd. Fans were engaged all nightlong, celebrating both Hagar’s career and the enduring legacy of Eddie Van Halen. The Best of All Worlds tour is currently scheduled to end its Summer 2024 North American run on August 31 in St. Louis.
