The BOWL FOR RONNIE benefit for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund returned to Pinz Bowling Center in Studio City on 11/17/2022 after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Sirius/XM radio Host Eddie Trunk served as emcee once again, and led a team that included Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Jack Black (Tenacious D), and Brent Woods (Chevy Metal). Other rockers who attended included Lita Ford, Guitar virtuoso Richie Kotzen along with his wife Julia Lage (Vixen), Doug Aldrich, who teamed up with Ricky Warwick and Zak St. John (Black Star Riders), band members Bjorn Engle, Simon Wright, Scott Warren and Tim “Ripper” Owens (Dio Disciples), and West Bound led by singer Chas West, Cesar Soto and John Bechdel (Ministry). Plus Roy Mayorga, Monte Pittman, Bobby Keller, Howie Simon, and were on hand to knock down some pins.
This year, the BOWL FOR RONNIE benefit celebrated the life of longtime music agent Steve Strange, who passed away from cancer in September 2021. A bowling trophy was also presented in Strange’s name to the individual bowler with the highest score, who was Howie Simon this year. The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund also presented another $25,000 check to the Regents of the University of California for continued cancer research. Red Carpet participants include, Teresa Schachtel and son Zander, Bjorn Englen, Sean Peck, Harry Conklin and Tim “Ripper” Owens (The Three Tremors), Jesse Hughes (Eagles of Death Metal), Ann Boleyn (Hellion), Lita Ford, Ricky Warwick (Black Star Riders), Doug Aldrich, Scott Warren, and Simon Wright (Dio), Bobby Keller, Brent Woods, Marty O’Brien, Eddie Trunk, and DJ Will.
